HARDIN – Calvin Marvine Leider, 36, a resident of Hardin, Montana, was convicted of aggravated assault and partner family member assault on March 6, 2024, following a two-day jury trial.

District Judge Matthew Wald presided.

During the trial, evidence presented by the State revealed that on October 15, 2023, Leider assaulted his then-girlfriend. The incident was captured on home security footage and shared on Facebook. The State’s case highlighted the violence of the assault. In the video, Leider was seen kicking the victim, dragging her from the car, and kicking her while she was on the ground. After the assault, Leider left the victim lying on the sidewalk. The jury heard testimony from several witnesses including Dr. Walter Kemp, a forensic pathologist, who testified about the violent nature of the assault and the life-threatening injuries the victim could have sustained.

Leider faces a possibility of 20 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $50,000. Sentencing has been set for April 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.

The case was prosecuted by Jeanne Torske, Big Horn County Attorney, and Wyatt Glade, Deputy County Attorney.
